Zaffart Train
The Little Green Train is into the Zaffart Train, an experiential journey into the heart of Sardinia enriched by wine&local food tasting, music and art performance.
Board the train at Mandas and head to Orroli, our first stop. During this section of the journey, we’ll be serving breakfast made with local produce.
In Orroli, the land of centenaries, you will have the opportunity to visit the Kentos bakery, where bread is prepared by using ancient recipes. The bread is made with a superior quality durum wheat called Senatore Cappelli. Kentos uses a traditional yeast, “su frammentu”, their own natural dough starter, handed down from mother to daughter for over 300 years.
Shortly after the stop in Orroli, the Zaffart Train passes through the small town of Nurri, then past the Villanovatulo train station, stopping at Flumendosa Lake. Surrounded by this astonishing backdrop you will be treated to local wine and food tasting enriched by a music performance.
The journey continues with the pristine scenery of the Flumendosa Lake surrounding you, crossing short tunnels and old and humble train stations heading to the town of Sadali, the final stop of our outward journey.
In Sadali, we will stop to taste delicious Sardinian food in the restaurant Le Grotte, where traditional recipes will be flavoured with saffron from Villanovafranca.
During the outward journey you will have the opportunity to be part of theatre workshops “Train-ing – workshop and performance of volcals&sounds”, hosted on the train, and curated by Monica Serra in collaboration with Silvia Corda and Claudio PRC.
On the return journey to Mandas, our first stop will be Betilli station giving you the opportunity to visit the Borgo dei Carbonai located into a holm oak forest with view of the Monte Santa Vittoria nearby.
Here you will taste the famous Villacidro-Murgia liquor, entertaine music performance.
The Zaffart Train will then head to Mandas where the journey ends.
The Mandas train station will host another musical performance, as the finale of the Zaffart Train experience. The outcome of the theatre workshop theatre will be presented together with video projections. An “aperitivo” with local produce will be served.
The Zaffart experience will continue in Casa Caria at Villanovafranca with photographic exhibitions, live performances and the opportunity to indulge with a Nuragic dinner.

9:00 – Get on the Zaffart Train at Mandas train station. We’ll be serving breakfast with local produce on the way to Orroli.
10:06 – Stop in Orroli to visit the Kentos bakery.

Enjoy a full day olive experience, where you will have the opportunity to visit the groves and harvest the olives in the fields, whilst an expert reveals the secrets of this ancient product.
You will visit the oil mill to learn the processes involved in producing extra virgin olive oil. The mill experience will include a visit to an ancient millstone used to grind the olives, and an introduction to the cold pressing process.
The day will include lunch with local, products from the olive oil farm, iving you the opportunity to taste the aroma of extra virgin olive oil.
The rural experience includes:
- Breakfast in the olive oil farm with local produce;
- A visit to the grove to harvest the olives

The initiatives and events of the day will be part of the Zaffart festival hold in Villanovafranca, a small Sardinian village, in which saffron is the star.
Mountain biking, rural experiences, live music, dj sets and exhibitions will be the ingredients of the festival enriched by the skill of our chefs who will prepare traditional Sardinian dishes, using the saffron of Villanovafranca.
The events are free with the exception of the Zaffart lunch.
